Gibson County Shaft & Slope

On August 1, 2011, Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc. was awarded a contract from Gibson County Coal, LLC for the design and construction of the new Gibson County Coal (South) mining complex, located near Owensville, Indiana. The project involves the design and construction of a 30' (inside diameter) dual compartment, concrete-lined shaft and a dual compartment, over/under slope. The shaft will be approximately 577' deep and the slope will be 2,200' long.
Obayashi Raise Drill Shafts

On August 1, 2011, Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc. was awarded a contract from Obayashi Corporation & MWH Constructors, Inc. for the construction of five shafts at the Water Treatment Plant No. 4 Project in Austin, Texas. The project consists of raise drilling five pump well shafts for the City of Austin's new water treatment plant. The shafts will be drilled using Frontier-Kemper's 7SP raise drilling system to a diameter of 7' and will be approximately 345' deep.
Barrick Cortez Blind Bore Shaft

Location: Near Crescent Valley, Nevada
In April 2011, Barrick Gold Corporation of North America awarded FKCI a contract for the construction of a blind bored shaft for their Cortez Hills Lower Zone Expansion Project located near Crescent Valley, NV. The shaft will be drilled to 14 ft. diameter and then concrete lined to a finished diameter of 12 ft. The shaft will be drilled to a depth of 1500 VF utilizing FKCI's FK350MT Blind Drilling System. This will be the deepest shaft that FKCI has blind drilled to date.
Advent Mining
Contractor: Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc.

Location: Sebree, Kentucky
On April 7, 2011, Allied Resources, Inc. awarded FKCI a contract for the construction of a shaft located at Advent Mining's (subsidiary of Allied Resources, Inc.) mining facility located near Sebree, KY. The shaft will be raise drilled to 18 ft. diameter using FKCI's 81R Raise Drilling Machine and will be concrete lined to a final diameter of 16 ft. The total shaft depth will be 596 VF with a reamed depth of 576 VF.
White Oak Resources

On February 17, 2011, White Oak Resources LLC awarded FKCI a turn-key construction and engineering contract for a shaft at their Mine No. 1 site located in McLeansboro, IL. The shaft will be conventionally excavated to a diameter of 36 ft. and concrete lined back to a finished diameter of 34 ft. The shaft includes a T-shaped divider wall to form a three-compartment shaft configuration and will include a 20-ton hoisting system installed by FKC-Lake Shore. The total shaft depth will be approximately 960VF with 30VF of overburden. The project also includes the construction of a water ring, 5-way station, and a 30 ft. sump.
Arclar Mining Shaft

In November 2010, Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc. was awarded a contract from Peabody Arclar Mining, LLC to construct a conventional shaft at their Willow Lake Mine located in Eldorado, Illinois. The shaft will be conventionally excavated to a diameter of 18 ft. and concrete lined back to a finished diameter of 16 ft. The total shaft depth will be approximately 388VF with 78VF of overburden. The project also includes the construction of two water rings, one being for future mine development in the no. 6 seam.
Dodge Hill Shaft

In October 2010, Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc. was awarded a contract from Dodge Hill Mining Company, LLC (a subsidiary of Patriot Coal Company) to construct a blind drilled shaft at their mining facility in Sturgis, Kentucky. The shaft will be blind drilled to 14 ft. diameter and will be lined to a final diameter of 12 ft. with an unreinforced concrete lining. The shaft will be drilled utilizing the FK350MT at a depth of 576VF. This will be the first shaft FKCI has drilled at this smaller diameter.
Greenbrier Smokeless Shaft

In October 2010, Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc. was awarded a contract from Greenbrier Smokeless Coal Mining, LLC. to construct a conventional shaft at their Mountaineer Pocahontas Mine No. 1 near Anjean, West Virginia. The contract includes the design, engineering, and construction of a conventionally excavated, concrete lined shaft to a finished diameter of 26 ft. The total depth from the top of the collar to the bottom of the hoist pit will be 520 ft. The project will also include a water ring, 12 in. divider wall, and a 4-way shotcreted station.
Century Mine Belt Slope

On August 2, 2010, Frontier-Kemper
Constructors, Inc. was awarded a contract by American Energy Corporation to construct a belt mine slope at their Century Mine in Beallsville, Ohio. After an open cut is excavated by the owner, FKCI will construct a 14 degree, 1,582 LF slope. 159 LF of portal section will be constructed with cast-in-place arched portal concrete, which will then be backfilled by the owner. The intermediate section of the slope will be excavated mechanically with a Paurat Roadheader. The initial 100 LF of the slope will be supported by arched steel sets with the remainder being shotcreted. The contract also includes concrete invert with rail, permanent utilities, and an 86 LF bottom station.
Warrior Coal Raise Bored Shaft

In April 2010, Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc. received a contract from Alliance Resources for a turn-key design/construct 18 ft. finished diameter raise bore shaft at the Warrior Coal Mine located near Madisonville, Kentucky. The FKCI Mine Development Group will construct a 22 ft. diameter collar complete with a 6 ft. air sweep. The drilling division will then drill a pilot hole utilizing Micon’s steerable drilling system and then raise the 20 ft. diameter shaft to 831 ft. deep with the RBM 211. Once reaming is complete, the shaft will be concrete lined to a finished diameter of 18 ft. A water ring and four-way station will also be excavated, supported, and lined with shotcrete.
Sugar Camp Blind Bore Shaft

In March 2010, Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc. received a contract from M-Class Mining, LLC to blind drill and line an 18 ft. finished bleeder shaft for their Sugar Camp Energy Mine located near Macedonia, Illinois. FKCI’s drilling division will blind drill the 20 ft. diameter X 970 ft. deep shaft. In order to drill this size shaft at this depth, the draw works on the DHI 240 must be upgraded to a 400-ton capacity. This is in process and when complete, the DHI 240 model designation will become FK350MT (Frontier-Kemper 350 Metric Ton). Once drilling is complete, the shaft will be concrete lined to a finished diameter of 18 ft.
Sunrise Coal Raise Bored Shaft

In March 2010, Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc. was awarded a project by Sunrise Coal, LLC to construct a ventilation and personnel access shaft at their Carlisle Mine in Carlisle, Indiana. The project will consist of a 18 ft. 3 in. raise bored shaft which will be concrete lined to a 16 ft. 5 in. finished diameter. The shaft depth will be approximately 275 ft. deep, extending from the surface to the Indiana No. 56 coal seam. The project also includes the construction of a collar pad, approximately 27 ft. deep coping section, pilot hole, a 15 ft. deep elevator pit, and installation of shaft steel and guides for a man cage which will be supplied by the FKC-Lake Shore Division.
Drummond Coal Raise Bored Shafts

In August 2009, FKCI was awarded the contract to raise bore two ventilation shafts for the new West Main access facility for the Drummond Company Shoal Creek Mine near Oak Grove, AL. Each shaft will be raise bored to a diameter of 16’-6” at a depth of approximately 1,250 ft. The shafts will be approximately 500 ft. apart and raise bored consecutively using our IR211 raise bore machine. Collar and coping construction will start around the beginning of November 2009 with drilling of the fan shaft pilot hole commencing in December 2009. After completion of the fan shaft raise bore, the IR211 will be moved to the intake shaft.
Black Panther Mining, LLC Raise Bored Shafts

In February 2009, Frontier-Kemper was awarded a contract from Black Panther Mining, LLC for the construction of two raise bored shafts at their Oaktown Fuels Mine No. 2 in Oaktown, IN. The two shafts will be 18 ft. (finished) diameter by 450 ft. deep. These shafts are being constructed at the same mine where Frontier-Kemper recently completed the first 20 ft. diameter blind drilled shaft in North America.
Perry County Coal Shafts Project

In October 2008, Frontier-Kemper was awarded the contract to construct two new shafts for Perry County Coal in Hazard, KY. Work includes construction of two new 22 ft. finished diameter mine shafts on one site with the shafts located approximately 150 ft. apart. This includes a 250 ft. deep shaft into the Elkhorn No. 4 seam and a 470 ft. deep shaft into the Elkhorn No. 3 seam, as well as other associated work. The shafts will be conventionally excavated and lined with concrete. Each shaft will have a bottom station, 15 ft. sump, and divider wall.
Doe Run Raise Shafts

Location: Near Viburnum, Missouri
In April 2008, The Doe Run Company awarded FKCI the contract to raise bore four ventilation shafts. The shafts will be located near Viburnum and Bixby, Missouri at several of the Doe Run Mines in the area – the Brushy Creek Mine, Casteel Mine, and No. 29 Mine. All work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2008. The four shafts will be constructed consecutively. All shafts are 6 ft. diameter raises ranging from about 600 ft. to approximately 1,000 ft. in depth. Steel casing will be installed through the overburden.
