In 2009, Frontier-Kemper ULC, J.F. Shea, and Aecon (Seymour-Cap Partnership) took over the contract for twin, 12.5-ft. (3.8m) diameter, water tunnels for the Greater Vancouver Water District. One tunnel is used to transport raw water from the Capilano Reservoir to the Seymour Treatment Plant, and the second tunnel returns the treated water to the Capilano Water Distribution Network. In addition to the TBM tunnel excavation, work also included:
  • Tunnel Support & Control of Groundwater
  • Drill & Blast Excavation of Underground Chambers
  • Excavation of Twin, 4m-diameter, 270m deep, Raise Bored Shafts
  • Installation and Backfill Grouting of Steel Lining in All Shafts and Portions of the Tunnels
  • Interconnection Pipes from the Shafts to Nearby Water Mains
