Since 1977, Frontier-Kemper has excavated more than 111,000 ft. of shafts and raises using the raise boring technique. Raise boring is a method of shaft excavation, inclined or vertical, where a pilot hole is drilled into an existing mine or tunnel and the raise bore machine mechanically reams from the lower level to either the surface or another underground level. Raise boring eliminates the need for explosives or personnel in the shaft during excavation providing a safer, faster, and more cost-effective solution for shaft construction.
Frontier-Kemper’s fleet of raise bore machines can drill diameters up to 26 ft. and exceed depths of 2,000 ft. We have an extensive track record of raise bore projects completed across North America for the mining and heavy civil industries.
