The Frontier-Kemper/Tutor Perini JV was awarded contract C1151 for Westside Purple Line Extension Section 3—Tunnels Project. This project consists of two (2) bored subway tunnels; 13,680 LF excavated using Earth Pressure Balance TBMs. The tunnels are being lined with pre-cast concrete segments.

TBM "Iris," launched in October 2020, and TBM "Aura," launched in November 2021. Both TBMs have completed tunneling and holed through in October 2023. Final project completion is set for December 2023.

  • 13,680 LF (2.56 miles) each of 23.4-ft. Ø EPB Tunnel Boring
  • 13,680 LF (2.56 miles) each of Pre-Cast Concrete Tunnel Segment Installation
  • 14 Cross-Passages each
